Beer of the Week

The beer: Oktoberfest

The brewery: Antietam Brewery, Hagerstown, Maryland

Description (from Untappd): "A deep amber lager, Antietam’s Oktoberfest is crafted with 100% German Hops, malted barley and our pure lager yeast. With a special long and cold-aging process, the result is a smooth and malty brew backed up with rich caramel notes and a distinct noble hop aroma."

Would I buy it again? I'm actually really curious why Antietam Brewery doesn't push this beer in the fall, because it was genuinely amazing. Precisely what an Oktoberfest beer should be. Malty with the right amount of hoppiness, and no bitterness at all. I'd happily buy it again, and what a great way to kick off the fall beer season.

Beer of the Week

The beer: Witness Tree

The brewery: Antietam Brewery, Hagerstown, Maryland

Description (from Untappd): "A deliciously creamy brown ale with a toasty, warm finish and hints of nut flavor. Named after the longest living tree at Antietam Battlefield."

Would I buy it again? This was a good, if not great, brown ale. It was slightly hoppier than I would prefer, but it wasn't by much, and the bready maltiness was there. I don't think I would buy it at the store, but I'd definitely go for it again if I ever go back to the brewery itself.

Beer of the Week

The beer: Til Our Paths Cross

The brewery: Antietam Brewery, Hagerstown, Maryland

Description (from Untappd): "Hazy IPA with aromas of citrus and tropical fruit, full mouthfeel with citrus and tropical notes on your pallet."

Would I buy it again? In terms of being a hazy IPA, it doesn't exactly feel revolutionary, though I won't deny it's solid. It's tasty and easy to drink. But come on. Look at that label. It's amazing. Sure, I suppose this review could have been more timely, since season 3's been over for a couple months, but hey, better late than never. And timeliness won't stop me from buying another can of this if I ever see it again.

Beer of the Week

The beer: Ice Age Winter Lager

Brewed by: Antietam Brewery, Hagerstown, Maryland

Description (from Untappd): "Beautiful amber color with a light, fluffy head. The aroma of toffee deceptively hints at a malt bomb, but on the pallet this beer is a well-balanced crusher with a soft, creamy body, and just the right amount of hop bitterness."

Would I buy it again? It's a solid, malty lager, which I honestly wasn't expecting. I feel like when you see "winter" affixed to a beer style, it usually means spiced with stuff like cinnamon, orange, or ginger. However, I don't think it passes the Yuengling test. It's just not quite good enough to justify the extra price.
